Before her six years of elite mountain bike and road racing, she ski
raced for 12 years and swam competitively for three years.
Amanda began her coaching career as
she toned down her own racing career in order to finish up her
master’s degree in human kinetics, specializing in exercise science. A
current faculty instructor in Human Kinetics at
Capilano College in Vancouver, BC,
Amanda is also a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level
1 road racing and swimming certified instructor. In addition, she is a
Registered Kinesiologist and is a certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist by the US National Strength and Conditioning Association
and holds a Level 2 certification in ski coaching from the NCCP. She
also holds BC Advanced Education Teaching
Diploma for Post-Secondary Instruction.
Amanda’s experience relates to a
variety of cyclists in that she has participated both as elite athlete
and comeback athlete, participating in NORBA and World Cup competition
but also taking off 30 pounds over two years while training around a
busy work and school schedule.

Amanda is recognized as a confident
public speaker and a dynamic presenter, currently teaching anatomy and
physiology, health Issues, growth and motor development, and
conditioning courses to undergraduate students. She also takes her
show on the bike itself, teaching studio cycling classes at a local
gym.
Her personal strengths include
technical climbing and descending off-road, power on the flats and
descending on the road. Her mountain bike racing experience also
includes 24-hour and endurance racing. Around her teaching and
coaching she still competes in road and off road racing, as well as
the occasional running race or off-road triathlon. She recently had a
baby girl.
