A
ubrey
Curtis brings seven years of experience in multi-sports to the
Wenzel Coaching staff, specializing in road triathlon. As an active
individual in college, Aubrey took up triathlons before graduating
with an Electrical Engineering degree and receiving a commission as
a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. After six years of
military service in both Arizona and Hawaii, and training with some
of the best athletes and coaches in endurance sports, Aubrey decided
to leave active duty and obtain his USA Triathlon Level 1 Coaching
certification. He is currently pursuing his career in coaching and
plans to share his love of triathlon with others for many years to
come.
Aubrey resides in his home state of Montana and works with all
levels and distances of triathletes as well as runners and swimmers.
He works individually with each athlete to maximize the quality of
training within each discipline while maintaining balance in a
client's life and other commitments. He is coach of
the Bozeman Triathlon Club (USAT Pacific Northwest Regional Club
Champions) and is a sponsored athlete with Team TriSports.com (4th
year).
Though
Aubrey's original competitive background was in team sports, his
strong work ethic and determination made him a quick study of
triathlon, competing in numerous endurance and triathlon events in
over 12 different states. He has had top age-group finishes at
prestigious events such as the Los Angeles Triathlon, Honolulu
Triathlon, and Nautica Malibu Triathlon. He has also won a handful
of smaller venue races, the most recent being a 2009 USA Triathlon
Age-Group National Qualifier in the Northwest. Recognized as a 2008
USA Triathlon All-American Honorable Mention in the M30-34 age
group, Aubrey has been improving his times and climbing the ranks
each and every year. Though his own strengths are running and
time-trialing, he has created a strong specialty in coaching
swimming to athletes new to the sport (since he himself did not swim
competitively in his youth and needed to learn from scratch).
When
Aubrey is not coaching, training, racing, or learning something new
about triathlon, he enjoys relaxing at the local coffee shop with
friends and expanding conversation beyond triathlon. During the
bitter winter months in Montana, Aubrey enjoys cross-country skiing
and snowshoeing (along with Winter Triathlon, too).
