John Foster adds to professional expertise of the Wenzel Coaching staff with over 10 years of racing experience, including six years as a category 1 and two years as a professional with the US Nutra-Fig team and the Swiss Ficonseils team. Known as sharp tactician and valuable teammate, John has also spent many years putting his cycling knowledge to use by writing for various publications including VeloNews, Bike.com. He makes his home in Espanola, New Mexico, and will be the main Wenzel Coach for the Western State area.

As a part of René Wenzel's original "Class of 1991" junior development program (along with riders such as Fred Rodriguez and George Hincapie), John is well familiar with the Wenzel Coaching training philosophies. He has also been a multi-time Idaho State Champion who credits his success to his training and knowledge about racing over his given talent. As a coach, John has helped along the riders on three elite cycling teams that he helped both start and run. He is a detail-oriented coach who believes strongly in the mind/body connection and is looking forward to helping cyclists set goals and achieve them.

John makes his home in Espanola, New Mexico and is frequently in his hometown of Boise, Idaho. In addition to coaching, John works as a writer, winning awards for his crime reporting and profile pieces. In his spare time he enjoys reading the New Yorker, surfing the internet, cooking Italian food and going hiking in the red rock desert of southern Utah. He is married to Andrea Foster, a high school history teacher who is also a bike racer.
