Emily Van Meter has over 10
year of cross country racing experience, starting with her very first
Sea Otter Classic in 1997 and continuing most recently with a full run
on the pro level in the US National Mountain Bike Series. In addition
to her competitive experience, Emily holds a BS in Exercise and Sports
Science from the University of San Francisco and a Personal Training
Certificate from the American Council on Exercise. She has also
started coursework for her Masters Degree in Kinesiology.
With her extensive knowledge
of mountain biking at the top level Emily knows what it takes to
survive and excel both physically and mentally in cross country and
short track racing. She has an extensive background of working with
all ages and abilities in her coaching. Her main philosophy is that
patience and persistence are virtues that are intrinsic to not only
the sport of cycling but all sports.

Emily grew up as a
competitive swimmer starting as an 8-under on the local USS swim team
on up through high school, racing at both the regional and national
level. Later she headed deck-side and coached a youth USS team in
Arcata, California and two high school teams in the Bay Area. She has
also taught individual lessons to kids, adults, beginners and the
elite for several years. Emily has worked as a personal trainer and
fitness instructor since 2004 independently and at a local gym. She
has taught everything from “boot camp” and ski conditioning, to older
adult fitness.
Emily raced off and on for
several years dabbling in the downhill scene. In 2005 she completed
the AIDS/ Lifecycle ride from San Francisco to LA. During that same
year she won the Sea Otter Classic and National Championships in the
Sport Class. The following year as an Expert she competed in the
Majority of the National Mountain Bike Series, achieving 6 wins and 10
podium places out of 10 competitions. Emily went pro in 2007, racing
cross country and short track for the Bear Naked/Cannondale team.
She also has successfully raced several of the harder road stage races
on the national level as preparation for her mountain bike goals.
Emily is a California Bay
Area native who recently relocated to Portland, Oregon where she lives
with her girlfriend and their three dogs. She looks forward to putting
some turns in up at Hood and Bachelor, honing her cyclocross skills,
and riding in the rain with her teammates and friends!
