Jonathan Puskas has spent the past 5 years helping
cyclists and triathletes improve. A former co-founder of Body and Mind
Coaching, Jonathan chose to join the Wenzel Coaching Team 3 years ago
because of their broad-base of outstanding coaches and training
philosophy focused on sustainable athlete improvement. Jonathan
currently focuses on developing racers and endurance athletes in
Oregon and across the Pacific Northwest. He has a passion for racing
and training, and currently participates and coaches in nearly every
cycling discipline (road, track, cyclocross, and time trial). In
addition, he brings a strong triathlon and ultra-endurance running
background.
A 7-time Ironman triathlon finisher, Jonathan has qualified for and
raced the prestigious Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii and
earned USA Triathlon All American status. A former nationally ranked
ski racer, Jonathan began cycling as a method of cross training in the
early '80s. In the ensuing years, he founded the University of Notre
Dame Cycling Team, raced as an amateur in France, manages the
Half-Fast Velo Cycling Team ( www.halffastvelo.com)
and currently sponsors North River Racing Team in Vancouver,
Washington. He has been instrumental in the development of the Wenzel
Coaching Ironman-distance program.
As a team manager, Jonathan has provided coaching assistance to riders
for the past 6 seasons helping many riders reach their personal goals.
During that time, he has helped riders lose as much as 30 lbs, earn
State Championship Medals, and complete their first Ironman
triathlons. He is most proud of his ability to help "everyday
athletes" balance personal responsibilities and still accomplish
remarkable achievements. With a spouse, two dogs, and a full-time job,
Jonathan clearly understands the challenges "everyday life" can place
on training. However, he believes he can help anyone train to race or
complete their first ultra-endurance event (whether it be a
double-century, Ironman triathlon, or ultra-marathon).
Jonathan has a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages - French (Cum
Laude) as well as a Master of Business Administration (Magna Cum
Laude) from the University of Notre Dame. When he is not coaching he
works as a Marketing Manager for Intel Corporation. In addition, he is
currently an Officer-in-Charge of a Detachment of Explosive Ordnance
Disposal Divers and ranks as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy
Reserves. He writes a monthly column for CitySports Northwest Magazine
and has been chosen as Clif Bar’s Athlete of the Month (http://www.clifbar.com/play/hotseat.cfm?location=teamclif&id=17).
Jonathan believes his longevity for the sport can be attributed to
excellent mentors/coaches who helped him build a strong foundation
early in his career. By combining scientific training methods with
extensive experience, he hopes to provide others with a similar
foundation.
