Mark Payares of
Evanston, Illinois holds 21 years of riding and racing experience and
more than 11 years of bicycle industry experience in manufacturing and
retail. A coach since 1998, Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in Kinesiology from Cal Poly Pomona along with a Doctorate in Physical
Therapy from Western University of Health Sciences (Pomona, CA).
Mark’s clients range
from from junior road racers, recreational cyclists, and century
riders to Team n’ Training groups, track riders, ultra-endurance, and
master’s athletes. Accomplishments include everything from keeping
up with the local training ride, to Junior National Road
Championships, first time century completion, Gold medals in regional
Senior Olympics, Paris-Brest-Paris finisher, to podium finishes in the
local criterium.
In addition to coaching, Mark includes bike fitting into his
repertoire utilizing his education in kinesiology, anatomy, and
movement analysis. He aims to keep his clients injury free while
optimizing and enhancing performance.
Mark’s passion for cycling started with riding a BMX bike in his youth
where he dabbled in BMX racing and freestyle. While in high school,
Mark found his love for road cycling that continues to today. He
pursued triathlons for six years through college in addition to
collegiate road racing. Track racing soon entered Mark’s life as well
as ultra-endurance riding. Mark currently races for fun as a Category
3, with a fondness for criterium racing and time trials.
Mark is a passionate
coach dedicated to his craft as well as his clients. He brings an
eclectic approach towards cycling, blending years of scientific
foundations with the “art” of coaching. He believes in realistic
training plans that enhance and balance life.
In his “off” time,
Mark enjoys the culinary arts, eastern philosophy, and motorcycle road
racing.
