Roger Rintala is the main Wenzel Coaching century and general fitness coach and also works with riders making the transition to racing and developing those racers through the category ranks. Roger hails from Sunnyvale, California and is one of Wenzel Coaching's main Bay Area coaches.

Roger has been a sports coach for 20 years, specializing in helping recreational cyclists develop their training to meet their own personal goals and ambitions with a special emphasis on endurance events and citizen racers. By working on a customized training program and understanding each client's motivation, Roger has helped cyclists of varied backgrounds improve their cycling and accomplish major goals. His genuine enthusiasm for their objectives and successes has helped motivate clients to meet and even surpass their goals.

Roger also works with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training," where he helps recreational cyclists prepare for their century rides, competitive endurance mountain bike events, and ultra endurance events. With Team in Training and Wenzel Coaching he has trained cyclists for events including the Markleeville Deathride, the Leadville 100, the 24-Hours of Moab, and numerous other centuries. Roger’s clients go to these events prepared and ready to enjoy the event and their event-day success. Well over 90% of his riders complete their target event.

“Performance counts but to achieve your potential you have to enjoy the bike. We all choose cycling because we enjoy the time spent riding, training should enhance the rider’s relationship with the sport and with their body. I want to see my clients compete well, achieve ever better results and do so with the grace that comes from enjoying what you are doing.”  ~ Roger Rintala

In his own riding Roger has participated in rides and races such as the Tour de Tucson and the 24 Hours of Moab, and has completed the Markleeville Deathride and many other centuries both individually and on a tandem. He also races both on and off the road, and if available to help riders cross over from endurance riding to beginning racing.

In addition to coaching cyclists, Roger is a ski Instructor certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Roger credits the PSIA with helping him develop his foundational knowledge of coaching theory and sports physics and biomechanics.

Roger lives with his wife Dawn, and their son Ryan. Roger and Dawn have cycled by tandem the Alps of France and the Dordogne with Ryan in a trailer in their spare time. When he's not riding, Roger enjoys baseball and skiing among other hobbies.

“I really wanted to thank you for all of the awesome coaching advice that you passed on to me during the recent training season.  I was completely impressed by the wealth of cycling information that you have and  your ability to convey it to all levels.  Your enthusiasm and passion for the sport was inspiring to see.  After years of involvement in high level competitive sports, it has been refreshing to work with someone who cares so much and is willing to share his cycling others with so many others."         ~Kim Cobb
