Let’s ride! This women’s class is for riders of all fitness levels wanting to learn how to ride at The Lumberyard Bike Park, gain confidence and build basic MTB trail skills.
Join Wenzel Coach Elaine Bothe for this beginner Sunday evening series and learn proper body position on the bike, cornering skills, braking techniques, visual skills, line choice, pumping, jumping and much more.

6:00 pm: First-timers meet for orientation, everyone else meet at 7, ready to ride! Second timers or anyone wanting a quick review of the basics are welcome to tag along the first timers session, but priority attention will be given to the true first-timers.
7:00 pm: Lesson starts
$75 per class. Park admission and bike rental included!
$275 ($25 discount) for all four classes.

Riding indoors is a great way to build confidence and gain skills that transfer to the trails. The Lumberyard Bike Park has a variety of courses and features to suit everyone. This class will help you sort it all out!
These classes are limited to 10 riders each, so sign up early. Regardless of your riding goals, Elaine’s approach to teaching is step by step, guaranteed to help you improve your confidence and skills.
Each class will build on the previous session. We will make use of just some of the fun and unique features of The Lumberyard Bike Park. We’ll review each skill during each session, so while it would be ideal to attend the series in sequence, you may sign up for any class.
The park will be open to other riders during our sessions. Bring your friends and kids!
- How the park works, etiquette and safety considerations
- Walking park tour for first timers
- Basic body position and finding your balance on the bike
- Visual skills
- Weighting and footwork drills
- Cornering skills on flat ground and in the half pipe!
- Pumping and intro to jumping
- Intro to drops and wheel lifts
- Q&A about gear, fitness, trail riding, nutrition and more!
Coach Elaine is the 2015 Enduro National Champion in her age group, and also holds National Championship age group medals in Downhill (silver) and Cross Country (5th). She races locally as a Pro/Cat 1, is an IMBA certified Level 2 Instructor and has completed Simon Lawton’s Level 2 FLUIDRIDE Instructor Training (FIT) program. She is a guest instructor at The Lumberyard Bike Park in Portland, Oregon.
Is This Clinic For You?:
This clinic series is for beginner women bike park riders, including (especially!) first timers. All will build confidence and skills regardless what your riding goals are in a supportive and enthusiastic environment.
Helmets and flat pedals are required. Gloves, knee pads and elbow pads recommended. Any mountain bike in good repair will work, though you will definitely have more fun on a dirt-jump style bikes which are available at the park. We will inspect your bike, we reserve the right to disallow it and suggest a rental.
T-shirts and jeans with some stretch to them or trail shorts work well for indoor riding. Sturdy shoes are also recommended, as running shoes may be too soft. Shoes, knee and elbow pads, helmets as well as appropriate bicycles are available to rent at the park.
