SCHEDULING
FOR A PEAK PERFORMANCE IN AN IMPORTANT EVENT...
The Peak Mountain Bike Program is a program that begins one month
before the race or races that you have chosen to focus on as your
most important event for the year. The program is a detailed schedule
day by day leading up to the event itself. Like the regular Custom
program, the peak program takes into account your personal race, work,
travel and other commitments as well as all of the components of the
Individual Program (including racing category, previous racing experience,
racing region, anaerobic threshold, maximum heart rate, current fitness
level, age, sex, height/weight ratio, other measures and rider feedback.
The program combines mountain bike and road training including endurance
rides, interval training, racing as training and specific skill training
including climbing, descending, sprinting, spinning and big gear training
in addition to other exercises. A focus on road training and road
racing for training are also a part of the mountain bike program.
Weight training is included as well, and cross training is combined
in the fall and winter training. The individual program can also be
used with the Peak Mountain Bike program (a one month custom program)
for a planned peak in an event that you choose.
The Peak Program combines intensive training timed with planned rest,
along with sports psychology and specific preparation for the chosen
event. The Peak Program also includes up to 90 minutes of consultation
time for the month with the Wenzel Coaching coaches to answer any
questions, discuss upcoming or recently completed races, and discuss
potential changes to the program. (Additional minutes beyond the original
90 are billed at the One on One Consulting rate, although most racers
rarely require more than 90 minutes.)
Included as part of the Wenzel Coaching program is a monthly newsletter
illustrating skills in real life race situations, critiquing and explaining
race strategy, providing advice for how to handle sickness and injury,
and laying out schedules for best reaching or meeting with each coach
in the upcoming month.
Programs are mailed and billed monthly by US mail. (Programs by email
can be arranged depending on your word processor.) No long term commitments
are required although we encourage all riders to give any new program
