First Timers/Ultra Beginners at The Lumberyard Bike Park – MTB Class – May 5, 2019


What:

Let’s ride! This First Timer’s class is for riders of all fitness levels wanting to learn how to ride at The Lumberyard Bike Park, gain confidence and build basic MTB trail skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. This class is for you, if you’ve wanted to ride at The Lumberyard but wasn’t sure where to start!

Join Wenzel Coach Elaine Bothe for this First Timers/beginner class and learn proper body position on the bike, cornering skills, visual skills, pumping and much more.

Clinic Details

Riding indoors is a great way to build confidence and gain skills that transfer to the trails. The Lumberyard Bike Park has a variety of courses and features to suit everyone. This class will help you sort it all out!

This class is limited to 10 riders, so sign up early. Regardless of your riding goals, Elaine’s approach to teaching is step by step, guaranteed to help you improve your confidence and skills. 

The park will be open to other riders during our sessions. Bring your friends and kids!

We’ll cover:

    • How the park works, etiquette and safety considerations
    • Walking park tour
    • Basic body position and finding your balance on the bike
    • Visual skills
    • Footwork drills for flat pedals
    • Cornering skills
    • Intro to The Green Line and pumping
    • Q&A about gear, fitness, trail riding, nutrition and more!

Coach Elaine is the 2015 Enduro National Champion and 2017 Sea Otter Classic Downhill winner in her age group, and also holds National Championship age group medals in Downhill (silver) and Cross Country (5th). She races locally as a Pro/Cat 1, is an BICP certified Level 2 Instructor and has completed Simon Lawton’s Level 2 FLUIDRIDE Instructor Training (FIT) program. She is a guest instructor at The Lumberyard Bike Park in Portland, Oregon and Mt. Hood Skibowl’s Bike Learning Center.

Is This Clinic For You?:

This class is for First Timers or beginner riders with very little experience riding in general, let alone at The Lumberyard. All will build confidence and skills regardless what your riding goals are in a supportive and enthusiastic environment.

 

Gear:

Helmets and flat pedals are required. Gloves, knee pads and elbow pads recommended. Any mountain bike in good repair will work, though you will definitely have more fun on a dirt-jump style bikes which are available at the park. We will inspect your bike, we reserve the right to disallow it and suggest a rental (included).

T-shirts and jeans with some stretch to them or trail shorts work well for indoor riding. Sturdy shoes are also recommended, as running shoes may be too soft. Shoes, knee and elbow pads, helmets as well as appropriate bicycles are available to rent at the park. A water bottle is also a good idea, too.

There are lockers in the restroom, bring a padlock.
