    Dave Peckinpaugh

    Associate Coach / Windsor, Vermont

David Peckinpaugh of Windsor, Vermont has coached with Wenzel Coaching in the New England area for over a decade. David is strong in both education and experience. He earned a master’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in exercise Physiology and has worked as a faculty member in the Kinesiology Department at UMass Amherst. He is also an American College of Sports Medicine certified Health/Fitness Instructor and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Dave combines these professional and educational credentials with on-the-bike experience from 14 years of racing to offer a blend of current scientific training techniques with “real-world” application, building a bridge from the lab to the races.

As a coach, Dave strives to help athletes achieve both balance and consistency in their racing and training. To enhance performance, it is vital to balance intense training with recovery while accounting for personal life and athletic goals. Equally important is the idea that training and development must be consistent and purposeful. Dave treats all clients with the same respect and careful attention, whether they are fitness riders, developing racers, or elite athletes. His enthusiasm as a coach allows him to help clients work through difficult times as well as celebrate accomplishments.

Dave has been successful working with cyclists from beginning riders and fitness clients to seasoned racers in road racing, mountain biking, and cyclocross. As a father of two, Dave understands the difficulties faced by cyclists struggling to balance jobs, family or school with athletic or fitness goals and can offer advice based on his own personal history as well as the experiences of many other clients. Additionally, he has developed exercise prescriptions for numerous athletes and individuals with controlled disease (such as Type 2 Diabetes or Hypertension). Your goals don’t have to be limited to cycling – Dave has helped many people improve their overall health and fitness through changes such as weight loss or improvements to their daily diet.

Dave’s own racing career began on the road in both USA Cycling and collegiate events, including the Collegiate National Championships. Dave also competed in mountain bike races before turning his racing focus to cyclocross and other endurance events. No matter the discipline, Dave is familiar with many of the courses as well as the challenges of training and racing in the weather and terrain of New England.

Outside of coaching, Dave enjoys a number of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, snowshoeing, soccer and basketball. If not doing one of these activities, he can often be found cheering on his two teenage children in their sports and Irish dance competitions. When downtime is needed, Dave relaxes by watching movies, sports, and reading.

"Under David's coaching and the Wenzel methodology, in the 1st half of the season I've been able to; win 1 race, score 3 top 5 finishes as well as a 4th place in an Omnium. Thank you David & Wenzel Coaching, I couldn't have done it without your guidance. " ~ Bernard

"Dave has been a great asset keeping me focused on the big picture, as well as smoothing out the highs and lows inherent in any long term training program. The weight loss for me was somewhat remarkable... I'm actually lighter than when I graduated from high school 33 years ago." ~Don

"David has been incredibly patient and thorough with his explanations and direction. Although I am a relatively new client of Wenzel coaching, I am very pleased with his service thus far and look forward to continuing with Wenzel for many months to come." ~Anthony

"I competed in seventeen races as a master 55+ racer last season, and crashed in late August during an endurance ride the weekend before my most important race of the year. I was off the bike for 3+ months...Dave has done an excellent job in tailoring my program to accommodate my injuries and lost fitness, encouraging me and emphasizing how I must be patient....my fitness is slowly starting to return. I had my best year racing in 2007 (my first year with Dave as my coach), and with Dave's coaching, look forward to an even better year in 2008." ~Will

"David was great. He was very involved and accessible. I think he went out of his way to talk things over and encourage me." ~James
