    Gerry Halverson

    Coach / Longmont, Colorado

If you’re looking to get faster, and stronger, and perform at a higher level on your bike, or to return to performance after a traumatic injury or surgery, Coach Gerry Halverson of Longmont, Colorado stands ready to guide you. He helps athletes reach new levels of performance using customized, progressive programs designed to avoid plateaus and injuries. He’s an expert at program design, including on-bike training, strength and stability, flexibility and mobility. Gerry is also skilled and certified to support you in other aspects of preparation for performance, such as, massage therapy, recovery techniques, nutrition, and mindfulness.

Gerry started racing BMX bikes as a young teen. He completed his first century at age 13 and picked up road racing in his 20’s, winning the fourth race he entered. A couple of years later he won California State Championships on both the road and track. Additionally, Gerry has raced the Duathlon National Championships, many 5K’s and 10k’s, and has occasionally won his age group in sprint distance triathlons. His true passion is bike racing, and he actively studies and tests the most recent training, racing, and recovery techniques.

Gerry’s 35-year career has focused on helping people improve their health, fitness, and physical performance. After 10 years’ owning and operating a massage therapy center in Dana Point, California, he transitioned into performance and fitness. Gerry has worked with many types of athletes including bike racers, BMX racers, triathletes, runners, figure skaters, baseball players, professional football players, beach volleyball players, and golfers.

Some of Gerry’s successes include coaching a BMX racer to a top 3 finish at the Reno Nationals. He helped a masters cyclist work through soft tissue injuries, getting back on the podium at the national championships. For three seasons Gerry worked with a team of coaches preparing college football 1st-round draft picks for the combine. He has assisted many athletes coming back from injury, including an Olympic medalist in figure skating returning to her 2nd Olympics, a golfer that shot par — 54 days after a double knee replacement, and a woman with a traumatic brain injury that regained all her strength, mobility, and coordination with 6 months of training.

Gerry will design your training program using heart rate, or power. Additionally, he’ll help you with your strength training, nutrition, recovery, stretching, tactics, and mindset. He’s great with masters racers as well as cat 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s on the road, track or MTB. Also, he’s excellent with beginner and intermediate short distance triathletes, duathletes, runners, and rollerbladers.

Gerry has 30+ advanced training certifications that include ELDOA (spinal decompression stretches), CHEK corrective high-performance exercise, massage therapy, blood flow restriction training, and active isolated stretching. His skills allow him to support his athletes on and off the bike.

When he’s not cycling, you’ll find him skiing in the backcountry, whitewater kayaking, snowboarding, roller blading, cross country skiing or rafting. His two border collie/Australian shepherd mixes – Kona and Kai – keep him on his toes.

"The time being coached by Gerry was a pinnacle in my health, wellness, recovery methods, and psychological athlete brain... He gave me the confidence to push myself to my next level. He used an assortment of techniques to help me visualize, enhance my daily lifestyle for optimization, and most of all helped me break personal limits and plateaus. I peppered him with questions and constantly wanted to know the science, the perspective, the stories of other athletes and trainers. He was always very focused while training me which I really appreciate because I have had so many coaches over the last 30 years that have not given me dedicated time, have showed up distracted, have not been as professional as Gerry. I believe that this helped me thrive, perform, achieve, and most of all, dare to dream bigger." ~ J. Weeks

"As an active 63-year old (golf, Peloton & skiing), I've been greatly helped by Gerry. I've probably lost 40 pounds over the course of our training, and I have seen a variety of nagging aches and pains dissipate and then disappear. I can happily say I am in the best physical condition of my life, and I credit Gerry considerably in these results." ~J. Loftus
