    Kyle McDonald

    Coach / Brevard, North Carolina

Coach Kyle McDonald of Brevard, North Carolina, has always chased the goal of creating the perfect athlete. Early in his career, he studied to better himself, trying to perfect his training, tactics and lifestyle to perform at his best. Now it’s your turn to benefit from his efforts, as Kyle now focuses on making you the most competitive you can be.

Majoring in exercise science with a concentration in sports nutrition at Brevard College, Kyle is no slouch when it comes to sports science. He can help you make use of all the current metrics, such as lactate, power, heart rate and heart rate variability, to help you optimize your training and make you faster.

Kyle’s seven plus years of racing experience in nearly every junior to elite category has given him extensive knowledge of the races his clients participate in. He currently races UCI Pro in mountain bike cross country (XCO), mountain bike short track (XCC), and mountain bike marathon (XCM), as well as national-level gravel events like the Unbound 200 and Belgian Waffle Ride, with collegiate road and cyclocross events sprinkled in. No matter the event, Kyle is dedicated to supporting his clients to be the best they can be.

Kyle takes a holistic approach to training, helping his clients improve as many aspects of their preparation and racing as possible, including nutrition, skills, tactics, fitness, psychology or other key facets. He is constantly researching new training topics and techniques and staying current with modern training methods, using these methods in training plans to improve client performance.

Coming from conventional sports like soccer, baseball, and basketball when he was younger, Kyle has always been an athlete. In 2016 he fully transitioned to mountain biking doing his first XCO event, originally because he wanted to do something that challenged him in the outdoors. Kyle fell in love with racing, competing against his friends, and going as fast as he could. He is known for doing long crazy routes and lots of miles, stemming from his love to accomplish what he once thought was impossible. This is what led him to compete in races that are challenging to even finish, such as the Belgian Waffle ride and Oramm. As a coach, Kyle wishes to help his clients experience these same aspects of cycling that he loves so dearly. Whether it’s the competitive effort to win events and be the best, or the determination to complete that big ride, Kyle is here to help you every step of the way.

Kyle has always been inclined to help others as well, being heavily involved in academic tutoring long before he started coaching cyclists. He loves to help those who have questions, elaborating on subjects to help them fully understand a topic.

Early on, Kyle would ride with his Dad and have fun on the local trails, eventually even riding with the entire family in the woods. After that he joined the local NICA team, racing events around the state making many new friends in the sport. After sharing fun group rides almost every week, these friends have become some of his closest. These days he still can be seen doing the same things, with his Dad doing the shorter distance at his longer gravel events, while he races against his friends. Kyle loves the outdoors and spends most of his non-cycling time in nature golfing or trail running, exploring the beautiful landscapes in western NC.
