Coach / Lawrence, Kansas
Whatever variety of cycling journey you are embarking upon, Coach Lane Johnson of Lawrence, Kansas is ready to inspire, encourage and guide you. He started riding with his dad in 2006 and soon began jumping into the youth category at local road, gravel, cyclocross and mountain bike races. Currently a Category 2 rider in cyclocross and road, Lane has participated in all levels of the sport from local group rides to national championships. He has competed against some of the best cyclists in the country in multiple collegiate and Under 23 national championships for road and cyclocross. He knows the demands of elite competition and how to prepare you for them.
Lane’s passion goes beyond riding. He is involved with advocating for growth of the sport through race promotion. He is currently promoting a cyclocross race. Lane also runs a National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) team in its inaugural season.
In his coaching, Lane shares the benefits of his experience, while also drawing upon a solid foundation of knowledge. He earned his Bachelor’s in Exercise Science at Lindenwood University in Missouri while competing for the university’s cycling team. He can help you choose the right exercises to reach your goals and educate you on why you should do certain training exercises over others. Having raced at the collegiate level, he understands how to balance racing with employment or academics. That experience has helped him guide his clients to reaching their goals in gravel, road, and cyclocross events while managing busy personal and professional lives. He looks forward to guiding others to make the most of their racing experience.
Having overcome overuse injuries and burn-out himself, Lane can help you deal with mental set-backs. He knows the importance of being a well-rounded athlete, both mentally and physically. He utilizes his knowledge as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) to develop individualized, off-the bike strength training routines to complement on-the-bike workouts and address client specific issues. These workouts tackle common problems such as back pain and muscle imbalances, and reduce the risk of injury from the repetitive stresses of riding.
In his spare time, Lane is an avid consumer of coffee and books — they just go so well together! If he’s not feeling a book, you can find him playing video games, his saxophone, or Dungeons and Dragons. Suggestions for new coffee and coffee shops to try are always welcome!
