    Mark Kolding of Oakland, CA is well prepared to help developing triathletes and long-distance bike tourists of any age or skill level. He has been competing in triathlons since 2009, starting as a back-of-the-pack age grouper and ascending to the professional field by 2019. Along the way he experienced what it’s like to juggle athletic and professional pursuits, earning both a bachelor’s degree in exercise biology and a master’s degree in exercise physiology. He also acquired invaluable training methods from world-class coaches and countless age group champions regarding how to optimize training time and cultivate a long, successful athletic career. Now he is ready to share the benefits of his experience with you.

    Are you busy with school or work and wondering if you will be able to train and compete? While attending university, Mark competed nationally for collegiate teams at UC Davis and at San Diego State, where he captained the squad to their highest national championship finish in team history. Mark races all distances from sprint to 70.3, finishing under two hours in the olympic distance and 4:08 for the half ironman. He has competed in a dozen national championships and two world championships representing Team USA.

    Mark spent two years competing with Team Every Man Jack where he learned what it takes to work a full-time job while racing at a high level. He knows there are many approaches that great athletes use to get faster and stronger. Mark believes the right plan is the one that the athlete enjoys, is compatible with their other responsibilities and is sustainable year after year. He draws on his experience to help beginner athletes make the most of their busy schedules, in addition to helping elite athletes achieve lifetime PRs.

    Mark enjoys working with beginner athletes who are new to endurance sport as well as advanced athletes that have experience competing. He has years of experience coaching triathletes but also loves working with single sport athletes of all levels. Whether you’re training for a 5k or have aspirations of competing in ultra-distance events, Mark has the athletic experience and educational background to help you achieve your goals. He has competed in triathlon, running, and cycling events of all distances and disciplines. He is ready to provide crucial mentoring as you prepare physically, mentally and tactically for your successful race.

    Mark also has a passion for long-distance bike packing. In 2018 he rode unsupported across the USA from Richmond, California to Yorktown, Virginia. The challenge and joy of this 3,800-mile trip caused Mark to broaden his focus from triathlon alone to all-around endurance racing. With this shift, he began to look beyond sanctioned races to challenge himself with solo 200+ mile rides and multi-day bike tours, including completing Scotland’s North Coast 500 route in 2019. He is available to advise athletes seeking long distance challenges with consideration for everything from training and pacing to packing and fueling.

    Today Mark lives in Oakland, California with his girlfriend and dog. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and has extensive knowledge of the great riding and running in the East Bay hills. He works at a sporting goods store in Berkeley where he connects with and serves the endurance community of the Bay Area.
