Coach / Beaverton, Oregon
USA Cycling Certified Coach
Road and Track Specialist
Coach Mark-Anthony Sanchez of Beaverton, Oregon is a science-minded coach who enjoys working with beginner riders, racers and endurance athletes. Mark is a road and track specialist with a special ability to help with sprinting and time trialing. He is a USAC Level 3 Certified Coach and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. He is currently a graduate student studying kinesiology and sports psychology and is also a Department of Defense (DOD) certified Fitness Instructor.
Mark’s extensive research background shapes his philosophy that each athlete is unique and therefore requires their own unique training formula. His clients benefit by working one-on-one with Mark-Anthony on cycling skills, nutrition for weight loss, fitness development and anything the individual athlete needs to reach his or her goals.
Mark-Anthony is an active racing member of the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association (OBRA) and the Washington State Bicycle Racing Association (WSBA) who also volunteers at many cycling events in the Portland area.
As a lifelong endurance athlete who began bicycle racing in his twenties while serving on active duty with the Navy, Mark-Anthony understands the challenges of working a full-time, stressful job while balancing training, racing and family. He helps each client to make efficient use of precious training time so they, too, can keep up their commitments to family and career while training for their sport.
As a Naval Command Fitness Leader, Mark-Anthony built training programs for numerous service members who were in jeopardy of losing their military careers due to obesity. Coaching their weight loss using nutrition and structured training even lead a few to their first century bike ride or marathon.
Mark-Anthony’s proudest bicycle racing successes include the win at the 2013 Florida State Championship Team Time Trial (Men’s Open), a silver medal in the 2018 Oregon State Elite Track Championship for the Team Sprint (Men’s Open), a silver medal in the 2018 WSBA Regional Championship for the Merckx Class Individual Time Trial (Men’s Open), a bronze medal in the 2016-2107 Florida State Individual Time Trial Championship (Men’s Open 30-35 age category) and a bronze medal in the 2018 Oregon State Masters Track Championship for the Kilo. In 2017 he was selected to participate in Team USA’s Next Olympic Hopeful Program for track cycling. In 2014 while racing for the U.S. Military Cycling Team, he had the opportunity compete in the UCI Asia Tour of Okinawa in Japan. He currently rides for the Audi Cycling Team based out of Seattle Washington.
His wife Marie is also a competitive cyclist. They have two fur babies – a 20 pound Siberian cat and a little Havanese pup.
Mark-Anthony believes that it is never too early or too late to take up cycling and he encourages aspiring athletes of all ages to engage in the sport whether it is racing or just riding for fun and health.
