Whether you want to go far or want to go fast, multi-race winning ultra-endurance runner and coach Matthew Warriner of Leadville, Colorado, is ready to help you get there. He helps athletes of all abilities explore new distances and take on new challenges in running and triathlon with individual programming supported by the most recent findings from exercise physiology and sports psychology. His coaching is also heavily influenced by his formal education, which includes a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in Coaching Psychology from the University of Missouri.

Working with Matthew, you can be sure that you are getting the most current advice. He understands the ever-changing world of endurance sports and tracks the constant modernization of approaches to endurance training and competition. Matthew’s coaching is informed by the idea that we are all individuals. Success will look a little different to each athlete, so the journey to success is going to be different from one person to the next. If your goal is to obtain evidence based but highly personalized coaching designed for who you are as both a person and an athlete, Coach Matthew Warriner is enthusiastic to help!

Matthew is a lifelong runner who can assist anyone, juniors to masters, at any point in their athletic journey. He raced at the NCAA Division I level for four years, serving as his team’s captain during his senior year. After graduating and rediscovering his love of the Appalachian mountains, he began enjoying longer distance events. He regularly raced and won ultramarathon races around the 50 mile distance while living in Durango, Colorado. Just a year later, he moved to Leadville, and began competing in a few of the 100-mile races around the region. Today, Matthew focuses on the Leadville Trail Series races for his own racing endeavors.

You can benefit from Matthew’s experience as both a runner and coach. He has been coaching in a variety of roles for over seven years. After graduating from East Tennessee State University, he worked with both the track and cross country teams there before taking on the role of Assistant Coach for two seasons with the college’s women’s triathlon team. During his time as the running and strength coach for the triathlon team, they achieved two runner-up finishes at the NCAA Division I Championships in Tempe, Arizona. While with the ETSU athletic department, he also began coaching runners at distances ranging from 1500 meters on the track to ultramarathon trail races.

After his stint coaching collegiate athletes, Matthew moved from Tennessee to Durango, Colorado where he continued taking on individual coaching clients. He has continued coaching runners and endurance athletes since moving to Leadville, Colorado in 2020. Along with his coaching history and educational degrees, he is also a United States Track and Field Level I Coach and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. In addition, Matthew is a current running addict, with a love for the mountain trails and the mountains themselves.

Along with covering miles on his own two feet, Matthew likes to spend time playing on his bike and on his skis. He and his wife, Alexa, love camping together with their dog, Merle, but they leave the three cats at home. As much as he would love to spend all day, every day in the mountains, he delivers mail with the post office as his day job and takes advantage of the trails during sunrise and sunset hours.

The most important thing a coach can do is treat every person just like that: a person. Matthew is here to help you chase PR’s and set new records, but he also wants to help you become a happier you. Join Matthew and learn to balance what you can handle with what you can’t…yet!
