Wenzel Coach Nicole Volek of Sugar Land, TX poses with her bicycles

Nicole Volek of Sugarland, TX has been in the physical fitness industry for over 17 years as a personal trainer, bike skills instructor, fitness leader, advocate, physical therapy assistant, lobbyist and motivational coach. She creatively blends rehabilitation and motivation as needed to provide a personalized training experience for her clients. An undergraduate degree in communications from the University of St.Thomas, a Master of Science degree from University of Texas Medical Branch, and a physical therapy assistant degree from Northeastern A & M Oklahoma have prepared Nicole to coach fitness and wellness. She prides herself on coaching in such a way that her clients, whether they are adults or children, can understand what they need to do and why they need to do it.

Nicole has been riding for fitness, health and endurance since 2003. She has mentored and coached new cyclists from solo rides to confidently joining pace lines and completing charity events, such as the MS-150. For riders with performance cycling goals, Nicole strongly believes in leadership and training by example. Having developed from a charity rider to a 24-hour racer herself, she understands the challenges faced by performance athletes, the distinctive skill set and the family/work life balance required. She has ridden thousands of hours at different times of day and night, and in extreme as well as pleasant weather conditions as part of her endurance-race training.

Locally, Nicole has started elementary school rodeos that center on principles and skills of bicycling equipment, bike maintenance, bike handling. She is also happy to mentor parents, educating the entire family on safe bike riding skills.

Nicole is married to a Lieutenant with the Sugar Land Police Department. She is Mom to two healthy, active sons, and parent to one dog and one elderly cat. She also serves on the board for the Texas Physical Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. She is a fierce advocate for safe routes for all road users with Bike Law, Bike Texas and the League of American Bicyclists.

Nicole is incredibly passionate regarding health, wellness, safety and especially all things related to bicycling. Her personal motto is: “exercise should be a daily part of our routine, like brushing our teeth – our bones and muscles need to be ‘brushed’ daily no matter what age or disease process.“ Nicole thinks that a simple lifestyle of healthy diet and exercise are more effective and less costly than the millions currently spent on treatment and medication.

"I came to Nicole when I had found myself stuck on an endurance plateau that I could not get past. She used road cycling as a tool to increase my general fitness and endurance for mountain bike racing, despite my initial doubts about “that roadie stuff”. What I jokingly referred to as Nicole’s Sissy To Century Ride Training series absolutely shocked me in how quickly I saw progress. Nicole has a gift in how well she reads when she can push you just a little bit harder to get the maximum out of you, without ever crossing that line leading to burnout. No more running out of gas in the final mile of a race and losing in the sprint! Thank you Nicole!"

"Nicole is a veteran rider/racer that has a proven ability to reach out to all cycling levels, providing positive training structure to accomplish rider goals. This structure is key to taking riders to the next level whether it’s their first century or winning a MTB team relay. Nicole is an accomplished road, cyclocross and MTB rider and takes the time to ensure that riders learn the cycling techniques in a few sessions that can otherwise take years to learn. Although I’ve been riding for a number of years, I’ve learned many techniques working with Nicole that have allowed me to take my cycling to the next level." ~Kevin Ford
